Employees who are dissatisfied with any aspect of their work, or who believe they have been treated unfairly by a colleague, manager or third party, should raise the matter promptly. Where possible, the employee should first speak with their line manager informally. If that is not appropriate or does not resolve the issue, a written grievance should be submitted to HR.
The grievance is investigated by an appropriate and, where practicable, impartial person. The employee is invited to a hearing, may be accompanied by a colleague or trade union representative, and receives a written decision. Where the employee remains dissatisfied, they may appeal in writing to a more senior manager.
Grievances are handled confidentially as far as reasonably practicable, investigated without unreasonable delay, and never used as a reason for detriment. Where a grievance concerns a manager, the Company arranges for the matter to be handled by someone else.
