Sickness absence (UK)

Employees should notify their manager before 9:30am on the first day of absence and keep the Company informed of expected duration. For up to 7 calendar days an employee can self-certify using form SC3. From day 8 a fit note from a medical professional is required. Absence is recorded and, where appropriate, supported discussions or an occupational health referral are offered rather than treated automatically as a disciplinary matter.

After successful completion of probation, the Company pays full salary for up to 10 working days of certified sickness absence in any rolling 12 months. Beyond that, and for employees not yet through probation or not qualifying, Statutory Sick Pay is paid at the statutory rate and for the statutory duration where the employee meets the eligibility conditions.

Long-term absence is reviewed with the employee, their manager and HR, taking account of medical advice, reasonable adjustments where a disability applies, and the options available before any formal step is considered.
